Gesher Media’s Mission

Gesher is a team of scholars, archaeologists, and filmmakers. Gesher aims to build a bridge to the world of the Bible by engaging audiences with biblical stories in their authentic settings. Over many years, Roy Brown – Gesher’s founder and president – has developed resources for the church and the academy to accurately study the Bible. Accordance Bible Software remains the most accurate and powerful biblical software in the world. Under Roy’s leadership, Gesher Media will maintain the extremely high quality of biblical accuracy and research that has characterized Accordance for three decades.

Gesher – which means “bridge” in Hebrew – symbolizes our mission.

Biblical illiteracy is a hallmark of our disenchanted, materialistic age. This illiteracy underlies the prevailing trends of secularism, religious deconstructionism, and spiritual indifference. In our estimation, negative attitudes towards the Bible do not primarily originate from an intellectual rejection of the Bible’s claims. People have no idea what the Bible even says. If they do not know the story of the Bible – how could they ever care about its truth claims? Our mission is to build a bridge to span the deep and ever-growing chasm between our modern reality and the world of the Bible.

Humans love epic, heroic stories. Film franchises like the Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia captivate modern audiences – who rarely realize that these epic sagas originate from Biblical heroic stories. Moderns have not lost their appetite for Biblical epics – they have forgotten that the Bible is primarily a fantastic, epic story – whose ultimate hero is “at the back” of all these stories.

Each member of our team has been captivated by our own immersion into the amazing world Behind the Bible (click to view our YouTube channel). We know from firsthand experience that biblical stories are real, epic, inspiring, entertaining and, ultimately, indispensable for every age. To overcome biblical illiteracy and indifference, Gesher aims to build a bridge to the world of the Bible by engaging audiences with real biblical stories in their real settings.

Building a Bridge

Ironically, widespread biblical illiteracy has emerged when our academic knowledge of the real world of the Bible has never been higher. Archaeological discoveries regularly enhance, and even revolutionize our understanding of the reality of the Bible. In Gesher’s view, archaeology should be a major entry point for modern engagement with biblical stories.

We have unprecedented evidence for the real world of ancient Israel, but this world is mostly discussed within academia – rarely breaking through to the public or the church. When the church does engage with biblical archaeology it is usually to “prove the Bible true” in response to secular criticism. While biblical archaeology has an apologetic value for the church, this is not archaeology’s purpose or, even, its most important contribution to the church or the secular world. Archaeology reveals and re-enchants the real world of the Bible. Archaeology gives us tactile, tangible evidence of the lost sights, sounds, and settings of the greatest epics ever penned – where the actions of heroes and villains determine the fate of the cosmos. At Gesher Media – we call this “Epic Academia” – our governing concept for engaging audiences with the Bible.

We use the concept of “Epic Academia” to bridge the gap between the public and the Bible by creating entertaining, academically robust, and sophisticated media. We produce accessible films, create content on social media, publish books, and curate pictorial collections – all of which are resources for engaging the biblical world’s historical, archaeological, and cultural backgrounds. The biblical world may be ancient, but it is not lost. At Gesher – we aim for our audience to learn and enjoy the fascinating world of the Bible.
